Who (is camp)
We are
Over the years, our camp organizers have been continually impressed and creatively inspired by the myriad of bike iterations on playa. From impressive burner bikes, to pedal-powered art cars, so much can be done on two (or more) wheels. The Burn doesn’t need another bike repair camp, so with more than 10 years of camp organizing experience between us, we decided we wanted to create a camp dedicated just to the weird and wacky things we can do on a bike that don't involve fixing them.We encourage camp visitors to think outside the bike when both getting around playa and when using their bikes as more than just a method of transportation. And not all enjoyment of bikes need to be an active pursuit; our bike-themed hangout space invites bar guests and passerbys to sit and stay and relax. We also wanted to create a camp that allowed the time and flexibility to still enjoy the event at its fullest. There are no early morning meetings or events, you can pick and choose your own event shifts, and build is done by Monday at the latest. You will need to strike, but the rest of the event is what you want it to be.
You are
While you should be familiar with and adhere to the 10 Principles, there are a few call outs that our camp looks for in members, and we ask you to think deeply if this description applies to you:Radical Self-reliance
Our camp was formed from a group of individuals who wanted to focus their time and efforts on our shared gift to playa, not cushy camp provisions. As such, we expect each camp mate to be responsible for their own personal needs on playa, such as personal shade, water, generators/power, and food. Our dues are lower than most camp’s because of this focus on self-reliance.Participation
While there is some flexibility in camp responsibilities to tailor to individual skill sets, each camp member is expected to participate in some capacity in all stages of camp: pre-burn planning and building, on playa interactivity, and strike. Strike is mandatory, and we do it together.Immediacy
If you have ever considered yourself an “influencer”, this is not the camp for you. We encourage campers to put away their phones and be fully present, both for the event and with other camp mates.
What (do we bring)
Gift/Interactivity

The HandleBar
For 2024, we will be building and bringing a fully functional bike blender bar, which will be open for a few hours each day so bar guests can blend their own mixed drinks.

Scheduled Events
We’ll be bringing back a few of our most popular events, tandem counseling and big wheel jousting.

Unscheduled Events
As part of the HandleBar’s opening hours, we will randomly be hosting smaller mini games, chosen at random. Events include: bike limbo, foot down, and slowest race.

The Porch
For 2024, we will be building and bringing a fully functional bike blender bar, which will be open for a few hours each day so bar guests can blend their own mixed drinks.

WhereWhenWheel

Meetings
There will be one online meeting a month, starting in April just before the Main Sale. These meetings are a great way to meet your fellow camp members in advance and find out what projects are ongoing and what you can contribute to.
Build Days
In Bend?
There will be four build days in Bend, one each month from May through August. The focus of these build days is to primarily build the necessary pieces of furniture and decor for the Porch. Additional work for infrastructure such as shade also occurs on these days.
Remote?
Not in Bend? No problem. We are asking each remote camp member to build and bring one piece of furniture for the porch. You do not need to know how to do anything super technical like welding (bonus points if you can), there are a number of easy weekend project templates we can send you. But helping to build is required and we want to include our remote campers in the process as much as possible.Flying into the event and not able to bring a piece of furniture? Let us know and we can come up with an alternative way to contribute.

Dues
Burning Man strives to be radically inclusive, but it's also radically expensive. It's necessary for us all to contribute financially to help cover these costs which include things like event infrastructure, bar supplies, truck rentals, and other shared expenses necessary to bring our gift and interactivity to playa. That being said, we aim to have our dues be lower than similar camps of our size, which is why we focus on the costs of our interactivity and require camp mates to be more self-reliant. Once budgets are calculated prior to Main Sale, we share the full itemized breakdown in the spirit of full transparency.Estimated dues for 2024 are $300/person.Camp dues are non-refundable under any circumstances. We spend this money early in preparation for each year’s event, and once it's gone, we can't unbuy things. You must pay camp dues to reserve your space in camp.
Deposit
Everyone in camp pays a refundable deposit equal to their dues. To get your deposit back in full, you must:Complete all the shifts and responsibilities you signed up for.Fully participate in strike and staying until it's complete.Follow the camp rules and be in good standing.Strike starts at 10:00 AM on Sunday (Temple burn day) and continues until the truck is loaded, locked, and the final MOOP sweep has been completed. Skipping strike will forfeit your deposit. Deposits are returned 30 days after the end of the event. Deposits are refundable if you are unable to attend the event.
